Carlos Núñez
Carlos Núñez is regarded the world over as an extraordinary musician, one of the most serious and brilliant of his generation, and a true ambassador for Galicia and Intercelticism throughout the world.
His charisma, energy and pioneering spirit have made him extremely popular, as he constantly pushes back the limits of his instruments: the Galician bagpipes (the gaita) and flutes.
Born in 1971, he was invited to perform as a soloist with the Lorient Symphonic Orchestra in 1984, playing a composition by Irishman Shaun Davey. His brilliant recorder studies at the Madrid Conservatoire earned him a cum laude distinction. His first recording was in 1989 with the Chieftains for the soundtrack to the film “Treasure Island”. That same year, he won the Macallan Trophy for Gaita soloists at FIL.
By the time he released his first solo album, A Irmandade das Estrelas, in 1996, Carlos was already a world-renowned artist.
Since then, a dozen studio albums have confirmed Carlos Núñez‘s exceptional status on the world Celtic stage, not to mention his countless collaborations with artists from all walks of life, from Dan Ar Braz and Roger Hodgon (Supertramp) to Jordi Savall and Sharon Shannon. With over a million records sold worldwide and awards in many countries, Carlos Nuñez is still exploring new musical horizons.
